The Red Cross International Response Fund.

In response to the horrendous and urgent need in Haiti due to the earthquake, musicians of the Columbia area and the Red Cross have banded together to raise funds for providing clean water, medical attention, shelter and other needs for the people of Haiti.  There are TWO simultaneous benefits on Sunday, January 24th , starting at noon and continuing until late in the evening.  Volunteers from the local Red Cross chapter will collect and manage all donations and all the proceeds go to Haiti.

These two separate events are  The Blues for Haiti Relief Benefit Concert located at the TIGER ZOU Pub and Grill located in the  strop mall on Clark Lane east of Home Depot and behind the Golden Coral,  and The Rock for Haiti Relief Benefit Concert at the Field House on Broadway.  A PDF WEB SITE for the TWO Benefits will be up by Friday:

www.LifeSuccessAssociates.com/Haiti

We also expect to have the event listed on Craig's List and as a face book event shortly.  A number of people from many segments of the population are coming together to make this event happen.  Now that the roster of musicians has been established, volunteers are standing by for the next phase, which is publicity, and we could use everyone to help us spread the word.

The Rock for Haiti Relief Benefit Concert begins at noon on Sunday January 24th at

Willie's Field House on Broadway, were many of Columbia's finest Rock and Rhythm and Blues bands will appear in support of Haiti.  Red Cross Volunteers will collect and manage all proceeds for the relief effort, as local musicians, as well as national touring bands, will bring attention to the cause.  Willies generously donated the use of the Field House for the event.  The roster represents a cross section cutting across the wide diversity of musical talent, and shows solidarity in the eclectic mix of the people of Mid Missouri as they come together to support Haiti.  The acts are as diverse as the people of the region and the genres includes contemporary folk, acoustic singer songwriters, soul, rhythm and blues, roots rock, jazz and country and bluegrass influenced music, blues, power pop, single acts, trios and full bands, top 40 and classic rock, and alternative, progressive and hard rock.   See the schedule for all the accomplished and talented musicians who have come together, but to name a couple, the roster includes such well recognized names as The Kansas City Street Band, and Noah Earle. There were some details to cover before a couple more well known acts could be listed.  Once the word got out there were more acts than slots to fit them showing the generosity of the musical community.     Please come enjoy the day and support the people of Haiti in their time of need.

We would like to thank everyone for their generous spirit in helping to create this awareness event to generate help.  It is amazing that in less than a week these events spontaneously came together.  Now we just have to get the word out.  We will still likely need more help.  For instance, two sound systems have been generously donated for the events but we may need more stage hand help, and it would be nice to have one set of drums for the event so that we don't necessarily have to keep setting up drum kits between acts, which takes a lot of time. We'd like to thank every act or individual or group that offered to help whether we could squeeze them in or not, because they part of the event in spirit. We hope others will create more out there. Please help spread the word.

Band Bios for  The Blues for Haiti Relief Benefit Concert

12:00  Pippa Letsky - Pippa Letsky is often seen performing at Coopers Landing  or with groups such as F150 Pickup Band, Gainor & Friends, Rooster Creek Girls, Mr. Bones and Sloe Jam and while she usually plays bluegrass she offered to show off her bluesy side for the cause.

3:00 Susie Manley with Rob Lampe and Rocket Kirschner - Susie Manley is now playing the blues with long time Columbia music veterans Rob Lampe and Rocket Kirschner, and Michael Beilski.   Come see these Columbia favorites and hear Susie belt out the blues like only Susie can.

4:00 The Uncle Denny Blues Band with Al Green and friends- Uncle Denny, Dennis Ternamian, has been playing the blues around the Columbia area for over 20 years with various blues bands including the Kansas City Street Band and more recently the Baub Eis Band.  His influences are Chicago Blues to Hendrix and country blues.  Blues musicians in the area, regard Uncle Denny as one of the senior, premier bluesmen in the brotherhood, ... even a kind of mentor, and indeed their favorite uncle.

5:00 Crazy Fish with Naked Dave Bandy and Mark Risch   The Crazy Fish have sometimes been called "genre jumpers" a they are not purely a blues band, but slip in some swing or jump or rock-n-roll tunes into their set.  Furthermore they are a group of musicians who have come together in a writing collaboration that takes them all over the genre map.  Members of the semi acoustic group include Dave Bandy, Mark Risch, Donnie Romie and Jim Hellman.

6:00 The John D'Agostino Band with Al Loshbaugh If you know the Columbia area's blues scene at all, you know John D'Agostino is counted among the most talented and respected musicians in Columbia.  He is a singer/songwriter & piano player who, besides fronting the John D'Agostino Blues Band, also plays with The Fried Crawdaddies, The Catnip Mouse Band, the Wednesday Night Blues Band, The Monday Night Big Band, Lisa Rose & Hot House, and recently with Shea Townsend and the Silver Streak. But anybody who is anybody in the blues scene has played with John at some point as John considers most his good friends and John has hosted many a jam session in the area.

7:00 The Curly Joe Harper Blues Band- Curly Joe Harper, one of the area's blues harmonica virtuosos, is a seasoned veteran of Columbia's blues community.  Curly has fronted many an excellent blues band in the area for decades.  You will be well pleased to watch Curly Joe's band of highly talented bluesmen support his high energy harp playing and vocals.

Other respected members of Columbia's blues community who have said they be there for  individual appearances and could "sit in" include Smitty from Chump Change, Lisa Rose from the Lisa Rose Band, Scott "Harpcat" McCullough who pays with everyone, Keith Fletcher of Mr. Fletcher's One Man Band, Hoodoo Fletcher and the Reverend Marsha and Fletch N Fro, and no doubt plenty more bluesmen will be there for the Blues for Haiti Relief Benefit. You should also.
